| | | Description: | | This sturdy, jumbo-sized Kaleidoscope measures 9 inches in length and comes with a double-color glitter wand. Both of the colors create fun, "slow-motion" images. The pictures just cannot do justice to this item. Turn the motion tube slowly while holding the kaleidoscope to your eye and watch the constantly changing geometric patterns appear. This was a hit at our last Science Teacher's show as it is great for teaching optics. Comes in assorted colors on a peggable blister card. We will choose your color at random from stock. | | | Features: | |

The best kaleidoscope I've ever seen.Jan 20, 2010
By flickfreak Remember lava lamps? Imagine one of those, in the form of a long plastic cylinder -- the part that's horizontal in the illustration -- connected to a traditional kaleidoscope. Inside the cylinder is liquid of various hues that flows slowly, carrying with it bubbles and brightly colored pieces of various shapes. You can hold the clear cylinder horizontally, as in the illustration, and slowly turn it, or you can hold it vertically so the images you see will shift quickly.
None of this can convey the startling beauty of what you will see. In fact, if you buy this for a child, you may want to buy another one for yourself. It's definitely not just for kids.
It should be noted that the shipping charge adds 56% (!) to the price, so you'll pay a total of $21.82 (as of this writing). But just wait until you see it -- it's worth it.

9" Kaleidscope-Fluid FantasyFeb 23, 2006
By S. Vinn For once I have bought a product for the kids which should last a lifetime. This Kaleidscope is beautiful and solid and is worth the price. It has even been to school and back for share days and hasn't broken. Everyone loves it.

I went to visit my sister in Seattle and she had one of these and we spent an inordinate amount of time just looking at it. I had to buy one and had it waiting at home for me when I got back to Texas. I LOVE IT!!! So do the adults and children in my family. Not just a kid's toy at all. My youngest is 20 and I bought it for ME!!!

if it's a gift buy two because you'll want oneJul 28, 2011

"intelligence is not necessarily an evolutionary advantage"
the other reviewers speak the truth - this is just way too much fun. i bought this for a girlfriend who likes kaleidoscopes. not knowing too much about them one way or the other, i based my purchase on all of the glowing reviews.
when it arrived i was pleased to see that i could open the package surreptitiously so that could see for myself how it worked. well, that turned out to be a mistake, because at least a month passed before i could bear to part with it. every day i went to put it back in the package, and every day i ended up playing with it instead.
The skinny cylinder filled with both colored 'sand' and zillions of sparkly bits fits into a hole drilled at a 90 degree angle to the kaleidoscope proper, and then the 'scope is turned so that the cylinder is at vertical. after the sand and sparkles have slowly drizzled their way through to the bottom, rotate 180 degrees and repeat.
it's so easy to use that even the youngest child can enjoy it, and it's so sturdy (the skinny cylinder fits VERY snugly into the 'scope, so there is no chance whatsoever of it falling out) that i doubt it could pose a danger to anyone unless it were thrown at them. a bargain at twice the price, as they say. just be warned - you're better off buying two at once, (because it's very likely you'll want one), rather than buying a second one later and paying duplicate shipping.
purists may quibble because it is not a 'true' kaleidoscope, in the sense that you do not peer through it at a light source, but i don't think anyone else would complain. my girlfriend was thrilled, and tells me she and her two kids fight over whose turn it is to play with it.

You will oooh and aaah for hours - seriously addictiveDec 22, 2010
By william r. felton We first saw these at the Fort Worth natural history museum in the display on vision and light. The scopes in the museum were quite worn so these are very durable.
These are beautiful displays of color and light. They are seriously addictive and surprised us. We sat around ont he couches at the museum passing around different colors and burned an hour before we knew it. I had to have them but didn't know the brand. I got on amazon and bought these and another brand. These are far and away superior.
