Best toy fisihing set EVERJun 25, 2009
By Jamagan For Father's Day this year we setup a day at home of fishing and golfing. I bought two different toy fishing sets. This one, and another one.
Let me say that this was amazing!!
The fish is battery operated and actually swims around the pool when it's turned on. You actually have to take the time to catch it just right in order to hook it. As you reel in the fish the pole bends just a tiny bit - like in real life!
My dad (and all of the rest of the family) loved playing with this. Even my 21 year old brother was went out after dinner to take a turn.

Favorite GiftJul 16, 2009
By Memorial Mom My 3yr old received this a few weeks ago and we have had so much fun with it in the tub and the pool. It's challenging but just enough to make it fun and exciting for my 3 and 4yr olds (and Mom & Dad too). The fish swims in the water much better than any wind-up tub toy and it wiggles when you're reeling it in- very cute! It will be my new fall-back birthday gift to give (replacing the simple but fun stomp rocket)!

Can't Go Wrong!!Jul 10, 2009
By Deanna Deane I bought this "catch of the day" for my son when he was 3 years old. He is 9 years old now and has a "real" fishing pole and tackle box but he found the old plastic fish and was trying to get it to work because he remembered how much fun he had with it. I ordered the new one last week and he was ecstatic to get it! He still loves playing with it at 9 years old! He takes it in the tub, to the gym swimming pool, the creek ect. You can't go wrong with this toy! Deanna W.

It's fun!!!Jun 12, 2008
By Do Y. Kim The rod is little too small compare to size of the fish. The rod is only about 18 inches long. The fish is real fun in and out of water. You can use the fish on other rods if you can attach the bait. I would recommand this to anyone who wants to introduce fishing to their youngsters.

Best fishing toy for small children yetJan 05, 2012
By mikesja After reading the reviews on several of the best selling fishing pole toys, I got this one for our 3.5 year old daughter for Christmas. She absolutely loves it!! In fact, I've got to hide it from her or she and here 18 month old sister will fight over it. This is the only toy she's never gotten bored with--she's plays with this until we take it away everytime.
Pros: the fish swims in a fairly realistic manner and only swins when it's placed in water.
Once it's "hooked" by the magnetic lure, it wriggles just like a real fish until you unhook it.
It's very durable -- it's been dropped several times and no issues.
Clearly very waterproof electronics.
Cons: as other have mentioned, the fish is very large compared to the tiny rod; this makes it hard to crank the fish in with the small reel.
The fish's mouth opens and closes as it swims which makes it difficult sometimes to get the lure in the fish's mouth. At least half the time, the magnetic lure will attach to the fish's head or under the mouth which makes it wriggle, but you can't pull it out of the water. Our daughter has resorted to using her hand instead of the rod to get the lure in the fish's mouth which kind of defeats the point of having a fishing pole--they should have just left the mouth open all the time. Lastly, the fish has holes in it to allow water inside so it will sink a little; this means when you lift it out of the water, the wriggling tail slaps water everywhere (and I mean EVERYWHERE). It's best to use this toy in a bathing suit as the child will end up soaked.
All this said, I still highly recommend this for young children if you want to expose them to fishing without the actual hooks, bait, and fish smells. Great bath toy--she now looks forward to bath time!! If they fix the difficulty of hooking the fish, I'd give it five stars.
