Have an oral child?Mar 28, 2009
By C. Reid
"squeaker"
I have a 2 year old that loves to put things in his mouth. He's chewed up a few of his brothers toy parts bitting down on them. He also is not a big talker. I read that some children need to "exercise" their mouths plus I felt like I needed to provide him with something he could chew on. This thing was just what we needed. I got a few of them, this one because of the handle. I thought it would work if I needed to hang it around his neck while we where out and about. He LOVES it. This one is not too hard and is very "chewy". I would recommend this for any toddler/child/adult that always seems to have something in their mouth.

Good Product/Wrong Version OrderedSep 12, 2010
By OBNFGB This is the same item my 23 year old daughter with a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) was given in rehab. It works well but is not strong enough for someone of her age. Following futher research I found that there is a blue colored Chewy Tube for adults and I will be replacing the two I ordered (one already chewed through) with the adult version. Why the rehab hospital did not use the adult version I do not know.
The Chewy Tube has been a great help in calming our daughter down now that she is at home.Chewy Tube Knobby Red

Works well for a child that chews everything.Jul 03, 2010

My son is 5 1/2 years old. He chews on everything. When I pick him up from school the neck or long sleeves of his shirt is soaked through with saliva from chewing. When he is playing I am always pulling things out of his mouth from blankets to legos to old sippy cup straws.
All my efforts to get him to stop have proved ineffective and I did not want him choking or making all his clothes gross everyday, so some internet research led me to this chewy tube.
Let me start by saying he loves it. He stuck it in his mouth the second I handed it to him and is now chewing on this instead of all the other stuff. I like this shape because you can put it on a lanyard or something so he can wear it and not lose it or put it down somewhere germy and dirty.
I have no complaints about the product. It does exactly what it is meant to do and my son uses it constantly. I will say, that it squeaks when he chews it so you can always hear him coming and I find the sound rather annoying when sitting with him. Also, beware of the slobber that such chewing creates. Shirts, blankets, chewy tube...there is spit involved in this much chewing.
So overall I am pleased that he is chewing safely. Obviously if he were to stop chewing, that would be ideal, but short of that, this is the way to go. It is also way better than making such a gross mess of his clothes and toys.

My son loves his chewy tube!! This is actually his second one, he managed to chew through the first even though I bought the adult one! He likes the texture of this one, too. It keeps him from biting on other things like his sleeves, his game controllers, the remotes, pencils - he'll chew on just about anything. It also helps to calm his nerves, I think it gives him some of that deep pressure that kids with SI issues need.

My son didn't use it...Sep 13, 2009

The reason I bought this chewy knobby thing was for my son, whom I believe was getting in his 2 year molars and also has a speech delay and seems to seek sensory input. He put every toy in his mouth until he was 18 months old. He was constantly sticking his index fingers in the back of his mouth and chewing on them, as well as his pacifier and his sippy cup straw, so I ordered this as a more sanitary and sturdy alternative.
Well, he used it a few times and his chewing obsession has lessened, so there is no need for the chewy toy anymore.
However, I know some other kids with speech delays and other disorders love to chew things too, so I'm sure this works wonders for kids who LOVE to chew stuff up! That's why I gave it a high rating.
These come highly recommended by speech and occupational therapists for children who have chewing obsessions.
