Simple and sturdyMay 22, 2011
By E. Bell This puzzle is brightly colored and straight forward. The wooden handles have knobs on the top to minimize a child hurting him/herself by falling on them. My 21 m/o son loves colors but isn't too into shapes yet, but with this puzzle I'm able to start teaching him shapes contextually since he already knows his colors. "Can you hand me the blue circle? And the orange rectangle?" So it works great for us! I see the product description says 18 months, while Amazon lists it as having small parts and not suitable for children under 3. Developmentally it is really designed for an 18 m/o, not a 3 y/o. Perhaps the small parts are the screws that attach the wooden handles to the shapes? They haven't come undone for us, and I don't see this being a choking hazard unless you plan on loosening the screws and leaving your child alone with this toy for an extended period of time. The shapes themselves are quite large and cannot fit in the mouth.

Simple shapes are best to start with.May 12, 2007

This is a really sturdy set of five basic shapes, with large handles for little hands to grasp. Perfect for the late baby, early toddler months. One of the best features is that it doesn't talk, sing, whistle or walk. It just sits there, enticing baby to develop her grasping, reasoning and motor control skills. Everything old is new again!

Sturdy, SimpleJan 04, 2012
By H. Macy We have received a lot of wooden puzzles as gifts, and they usually are too flimsy or more difficult shapes. For baby, just get this basic set and forget all the others. We did have to add the stickers to the board, which surprised me, but they were not difficult to place and it looks professional.

Good Stuff!Jun 24, 2011
By Me My son saw this toy on a Baby Einstein video and wouldn't stop asking for it until it got to our house. It was just what he wanted. He loves it!

Super!May 17, 2008
By Lorraine This is a VERY well made piece. The main board is thick and durable, the pieces are sturdy and most importantly...everything is smooth. My daughter still puts everything in her mouth, so I was very worried about wooden toys, but this one is great. She loves it!
