5The Handwriting Curriculum Which Definately Lives Up To It's Name!Nov 17, 2005
By K. Alphs
As a homeschooling parent I have reviewed the countless handwriting curriculums that are available for purchase. Many of the programs are all "whistles and bells" without much substance. After extensive reviewing my husband and I selected the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum for our homeschool. Handwriting Without Tears was developed by occupational therapist Jan Olsen in response to her sons need for remedial handwriting. This curriculum works well with students of all levels, especially those who are developing their motor skills or those who have cognative/physical impairments. This particular worktext focuses on "getting set for school", featuring a kid friendly format while focusing on writing readiness and forming the upper case letters and numbers. This curriculum includes the following worktexts: PreK: Get Set For School, Kindergarten: Letters and Number for Me, First Grade: My Printing Book, Second Grade: Printing Power, Third Grade: Cursive Handwriting, Fourth Grade: Cursive Success. This program definately lives up to it's name, I have seen the success in our own home.

4So far, so goodOct 29, 2007

I have used this workbook before with early intervention students in the classroom and now I am using with my son since he has relative difficulty with coloring/drawing/writing. With my son, so far so good. Completing one page at a time is appropriate for him since fatigue sets in when nearing completion. I prefer quality versus quantity.

5Without TearsJul 30, 2007

My sons preschool using this curriculum so I thought I'd give it a try at home. So far so good, it helps that he is practicing his letters at school and at home consistently. I'm going to try the next book at the recommendation of the preschool - I'm sure he'll love it too!

4An effective method for putting the "fun factor" into printing for older preschool age children.Jan 28, 2011

If your child is four-and-a-half or older, I think that this would be a good book to use for teaching proper handwriting mechanics.
