Great way for boys (or girls) to learn to care for others via a doll toyAug 15, 2010
By Sue Goodney Lea

This is a terrific toy! We got it for our 1-year-old, and we were very happy to find a cool doll that wasn't pink and that was rated safe for a 12-month-old to give to our little boy. I will definitely be using this as a gift for birthday parties and the like for other boys in the 1-2.5 age range.
In terms of a choking hazard, the toy manufacturer rates this for 12-months or older. I think that is just something that Amazon puts up to satisfy our liability-crazed social standards. There is NOTHING I can see on this that looks to be a choking hazard, save for a snap or a 1" button on the pants (also a snap on the hat), but these are sewn on very well, and I am not sure a 1" button could cause choking on a 1-year plus child (though I'm sure there's some case in which it somehow did, hence the liability warning). Ironically, by age 3, this toy would not be interesting/useful for most kids, who would have-- by then-- learned to dress themselves!
Finally, in terms of the lace being sewed on, this is just like the hat. With a pair of scissors, both the shoe lace and that hat are removed (as is intended) so that the child can play with the full set of clothes. These are likely sewn on only to ensure the pieces stay intact amid curious explorers at the toy store.

Not enough varietyApr 01, 2009
By L. Graham I was disappointed with this toy. There were a lot of velcro items, which are pretty common and already easy for toddlers to learn. I was disappointed that the Tie shoe did not untie all the way - it is sewn already crossed, so teaching a child to tie the shoe is not realistic. Also, there is no buckle. The watch is velcro. On the plus - the zipper and the button are nice to have. My daughter hasn't shown much interest in this toy.

great for my 2 yr oldJan 29, 2009

I got this doll for my 2 yr old grandson. I thought he needed a boy doll and this one seemed to fit. He loves his Jake and plays with him all the time. He likes zipping and snapping him up. He is learning to dress himself and Jake is teaching him to do buttons and such. Great toy.

Great toy for learning how to button, zip, snap ... and all of the things that can be difficult when using specific fine motor skiils. We bought one for our son and now are giving another to a nephew for his birthday.
