Made a !BIG! Difference in Tummy Time!Oct 17, 2003
By Colorado reader & parent I received this as a gift when my baby was 5 months old - I really wish I'd had it earlier. I was trying everything I could think of to keep my daughter interested in things long enough to get good tummy-time in - nothing really worked for very long. She was strong and interested in things around her, but hated being her tummy so that was always a battle. This Play and Pat Water Mat really worked - she lunged for the fish immediately and always enjoyed playing with it. We pushed them around with our fingers, and made goofy sounds, and she'd try to get them or put her mouth on them. She also liked chewing on the turtle's head. This is a toy that is for you to play with along side your baby - any baby young enough to still need tummy time shouldn't be playing alone anyway! IMPORTANT: Be aware that the mat could easily seal around a face-first and curious baby's mouth and nose, and that if the baby can not push themselves up yet... well - you see the problem. This is not a complaint about the toy - it's just to stress the fact that this toy requires supervision, and is not a tummy-time babysitter!!! My daughter is 18 months old now, and I'll be passing this along to a friend with a newborn. I'd recommend this for babies up to and including early crawlers - after that they just want the dog dish and magazines on the coffee table, anyway. :)

I bought this toy for my younger sibling but played with it myself. It is so much fun! The foam shapes are colorful and eye-catching and are very cute. You fill the mat half way with water, whipe it off, and watch your baby play. The mat makes cool sloshing sounds, too. A funny thing is that it's good for a baby with a fever or outside in the summer if you fill it with cold water. You can do the opposite for colder days.

Cute and fun toy but poorly madeAug 22, 2004
By Elizebeth Neumann First off....DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT THIS TOY IF YOU HAVE CATS!!!!!
I bought this for my 7 month old daughter and she really liked it. It helped her to sit by herself for longer periods of time which was great. It also really entertained her, she likes aquatic themed toys.
However, mine had several holes in the water part which leaked everywhere during the night. I had a tidal pool in my living room!
The downside to this toy is your supposed to empty the water out after every use. I must be super strong because after placing the valve on the first time neither I, my mother or my husband could remove it!! We had to take it back the next day.
Its an inexpensive toy and as long as yours works then I would go for it. But if its broken you'll have more water on your floor then in the toy.

Love this toyFeb 28, 2004
By Sue I bought this for my son when he was four months old. He fought spending any time on his tummy until I came home with this. At first, I had to hold him up to play on it to avoid suffocation. However, it was worth it. My son suddenly loved playing on his belly!! He loved the sounds of the water splashing inside and watching the fishes move around. He would bat at them and laugh. The only reason I gave it four stars is that the fish tend to stick together alot. Storage is a bit difficult too. It's worth it though. I think I paid $5 at a discount store.
