I am a first grade teacher who is trained in Orton Gillingham. Our instructor recommended this product for those students who can not hold a pencil correctly. Wow! Great product!

My son has been having trouble writing since the beginning: pushing too hard, getting cramps, forming his letters wrong. With the Grotto grip all of those problems are gone. The other grips are okay, but I highly recommend the Grotto Grips.

Great for getting the right grip on a pencilJan 15, 2010

I got these on the recommendation of my daughter's occupational therapist. She has autism and has fine motor skill delays which are most apparent when it comes to holding a pencil or pen to write. She still does the toddler grip using a fist hold on it instead of using her finger and thumb. This grip is the first one that she has not complained about using and it 'forces' the fore finger and thumb to hold the pencil the correct way. Since using it, her letters have become smaller and more legible. She can only do it for a few minutes at a time, but the therapist said that as her fingers strengthen, the time will get longer.
I gave 3 stars for the "Fun" rating since I didn't think it was really applicable in this case. I wouldn't consider a pencil grip a toy per se.

I bought 3 types of finger grips for my kindergartener...these were the best fitting and most liked. I saw an immeadate improvement in his writting.
