4Good introductory game of baseball for kidsAug 10, 2011
By Play Ball
I played this game with my 5-yr old son and he quickly caught on to the game. It helps if kids have a general knowledge of the game such as having played T-Ball or Little League. Baseball in general can be a complicated game, but this game does a decent job of teaching various aspects of the game, ie, balls & strikes, moving and scoring runners, and fielding outs.

The game basically has two main components: 1) a spinner for the batter, and 2) fielding cards for the defense. If batting, you can spin for single, double, triple, home run, pop out, foul out, ball and strike. The ball/strike results help teach kids that you'll strikeout if you get 3 strikes and walk if you get 4 balls. Rarely does anyone ever strike out or walk, and it does get a little tedious always flipping over the strike/ball cards. That said, my son really enjoyed the challenge of trying to get a walk.

If you hit a single, double or triple, the defense player gets to play a fielding card to try to get you out. These are basically cards that show red 'X' marks at certain bases to show which runners are out. This is a nice and simple way of teaching defense without having to get into all the nuances of the game. My son absolutely loved trying to get me out. Usually kids hate sitting around playing defense, but this game makes it proactively fun for them.

The games usually end in high scores like 30-15 or 25-12, so it's not realistic by any means, but it's ok for kids who are learning the game. Kids usually don't like pitcher duels anyways.

The game also comes with a total of 6 flat batting helmets--three each for the red and blue teams), but they're flimsy and often times you run out of helmets to help keep track of runs scored. Having pencil and paper is helpful.

The game also comes with OUT and Inning cards to help keep track of the OUTS and inning, a 4-card baseball field setup (basically creates a diamond for you to lay your helmets on as you play), and a trophy card for the winner.

Playball is a nice and simple game for young ones to learn. It creates fun for both the offense and defense, even if flipping the strike/ball cards is a bit tedious.

4Great Card Game for a Baseball FanJan 08, 2011
By Holly Walsh
Wonderful card came for any baseball fan, young and old. Easy enough for preschoolers to play on their own, yet keeps the attention of older children as well. Would be improved with a solid box to hold cards and spinner.
