I had one bug net and after they caught "each other" 20 or so times, the net was destroyed. This one is actually sturdy and the handle is great. The other ones feel like a wire is going to poke out at any moment and stab someone.

I purchased two of these nets, one each for my 3.5-year-old and 1.5-year-old, and they love it! At just under 24" total length, it's long enough for the kids to reach up (fairly) high to catch insects, but not so long as to make it unwieldy, even for my 1.5-year-old. As with all Melissa and Doug products, it seems very well-made and sturdy and the cute, colorful design is an added bonus. Very pleased with purchase!

My son purchased this product for his grandmother (using my money, computer, and shipping address...but it was his idea, at least) due to her recent installment of a butterfly garden. It shockingly arrived the day after I purchased it (very excited by that) in a package shockingly large for it.
However this looks like a very well-built product and I imagine that once the butterflies get a look at this bad-boy they'll be quivering in their little boots. Although I do imagine some will start a variation of a rebellion. Perhaps with blue face paint and kilts. Although I suppose a few will start some Occupy Rose Bush movement.
It's very colorful and my son is extremely excited to get to his grandmother for Festivus.

It catches butterflies and moths. Kids like it and play with it for the most part. It's like any toy, my kids only really want it when the other one has it. I think we make take this with us on the boat and see if we can catch minnows with it as well. For the money a nice toy.
